THE POWER OF A RENEWED MIND

A renewed mind is a necessity for living a new life. “As a man thinks, so is he.” In other words, we are largely what we think. When one is born again and becomes a New Creation in Christ, that individual can no longer continue in the old way of thinking, believing, talking, and acting. It is said, “Your thinking determines your believing, and your believing determines your confession, and your confession determines your action.”
The mind is vital when it comes to your walk with God. No wonder, the devil is working hard to fill our minds with garbage, and politicians are passing legislations to control our minds. The transformation that took place in the spirit of the Born-Again Christian is made obvious only through a renewed mind.
In the Epistle to the Romans, we find the prerequisite for a renewed mind, the antithesis of a renewed mind and the power of a renewed mind.
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:1-2).
First, the prerequisite for a renewed mind. We are asked to offer our bodies (including our minds) to God as a living sacrifice. Obviously, any true and sustained devotion to God comes with sacrifice. Sacrifice in this context simply means, to give up something or to lose ownership of a thing. The kind of concept, philosophy, or tradition that had governed our lives and making us hostile towards God and producing in us all sort of ungodly lifestyle must be sacrificed.
To walk in a renewed mind, we must give up the ownership of ourselves to God. The “Me” and the “I” s must be replaced by that which is holy and acceptable to God. In fact, it is more clearly stated in the Epistle to the (Galatians 2:20), I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless,
I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Sacrifice comes at a cost, and such is the price for a renewed mind.
Second, the antithesis of a renewed mind. “Be not conformed to this world.” The ideals, the values, and the systems of our world are not parallel to the things of God. The Scripture warns us of friendship with the world. James 4:4, Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. The mind of a worldly person or a person without God has little or no appreciation for the things of God. 1 Corinthians 2:14, But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned
It is from the background of ungodliness that we all came to faith in Christ Jesus.
However, having been born again, we must make a deliberate effort to unlearn and disconnect

from the worldly mindset. In doing this our lives are transformed into the image of Christ. The Lord Jesus reminded us that New Wines are neither put into Old Bottles, nor Old Wines into New Bottles (Matthew 9:17). Therefore, the child of God should make the effort to rid the mind of the dictates of the world, and rather, fill the mind with the Word of God which is the guide for the born-again Christian.
Third, the power of a renewed mind. When the mind is renewed, then we can know that which is good, acceptable, and perfect will of God. The renewed mind enables us to sift through falsehood, and to know what is pleasing to God. The Bible says, “There is a way that seems right in the eyes of people, but the end is death.” The renewed mind enables us to discern and avoid the pitfalls and the traps that the flesh, the world, and the devil places in our walk in this life to entrap us. The Word of God is the one and only tool for the renewing of the believers’ mind. The word of God is to fill our minds and hearts (Colossians 3:16, Joshua 1:8).
