MORE THAN A CONQUEROR

The believer is as much a conqueror as he is a child of God. The body of Christ today has shown little or no appreciation to the fact that they are more than conquerors. As a result, they run away from problems and challenges, rather than confronting them. They fail to see themselves as conquerors because their circumstances suggest the opposite. They hope to become conquerors someday because they think that it is a position to earn. And above all they neither see themselves as conquerors nor feel like one.

Some Christians do not have any problem believing that they are children of God. This is because the Bible says, “For as many as believed Him, those that believed in His name, He gave them the right to be called the children of God” (John 1:12). So, belief in Jesus alone makes one a child of God. In other words, believing in Jesus makes one confident enough to identify as a child of God and live like a child of God. Again, the Bible says, “For by grace are we saved through faith, it is not of our works, it is the gift of God, so no one could boast” (Ephesians 2:8). This is to say; that we neither earned the forgiveness of our sins nor the salvation of our souls.

Notwithstanding, we strongly believe that our sins are forgiven, that we are saved, that we are truly God’s redeemed children, that the Holy Spirit of God lives in us, and that we have access to all the great promises of God through which we are made participants of God’s divine nature (2Peter 1:3). None of these privileges have anything to do with your circumstances, or how you feel. Instead, they are true because the Word of God says so. Certainly, this should be the attitude and the mind-set of believers in Christ Jesus who called themselves children of God.

Now, if been a child of God has nothing to do with both your circumstances and how you feel about yourself, then been more than a conqueror cannot be determined by circumstances and feelings. Believers in Christ Jesus are declared more than conquerors not base upon anything they did but based upon their union with Christ. Jesus’ conquest over Satan, sin, and the world is credited to their account. Remember, Jesus did not conquer Satan or sin for Himself because He is God. Satan and sin have never ruled over Him.

Moreover, the conquest He made over Satan and sin was for us. He did it in our place. Just as he took our place in sin so that we could be made the righteousness of God (2Corinthians 5:21), in the same way He took our place in conquest so that we could be made more than conquerors.  It was as if we had confronted Satan and sin and defeated them ourselves. His victory is credited to our account.

Therefore, more than a conqueror is who the believer in Christ Jesus is. It is not a bluff, and it is not a title. Instead, it is who we are. It is our identity! I pray that you will deal with both Satan and sin from the position of a conqueror and not a victim.
